About us

Ancestry Passport explains citizenship by descent in plain English for Americans with European and Canadian roots. Official consulate pages are often hard to follow, out of date, or contradict each other. We read them so you know what to ask for, what it costs, and where claims usually fail.

Where our information comes from

  • Nationality laws and official gazettes for each country.
  • Pages published by embassies, consulates and ministries, linked on every guide.
  • Court decisions that change how the law is applied, such as Italy's 2026 Constitutional Court ruling.

Every country page shows the date its facts were last checked. When a law changes, we log it on the law changes tracker and update the affected guides.

What we are not

We are not a law firm, a government agency, or a citizenship service. We don't file applications for anyone. Read our editorial policy anddisclaimer for details.
